Duration: 108 minutes.
Official story of Derby County’s 1995/1996 promotion season.
On day one of the 1995/1996 season not even the most optimistic Rams fans could have foreseen the drama and excitement of a thrilling promotion campaign. In this action packed two-hour special we re-live all the highlights as the Rams achieved their dream of winning a place in the Premier League, including all the exclusive behind -the-scenes celebrations from the final victory.
It was glory at the first attempt for new manager Jim Smith and his assistant Steve McClaren. Igor Stimac was one of 12 new signings who arrived at the Baseball Ground, as Smith and McClaren led Derby County to automatic promotion. It was an historic season that also saw the club unveil plans to move to a new stadium.
John Gubba –
Amazon customer: “This is a brand-new 2013 remaster of the classic 108-minute account of that whirlwind season (1995/96) when the Rams romped to promotion in Jim Smith’s very first year in charge at the Baseball Ground.
He gathered some canny squad acquisitions (van der Laan, Willems, Stimac), promoted Dean Sturridge from loaned-out 6th-choice striker to first-choice – and Daniel Sturridge’s uncle repaid Jim with 20 goals as Derby returned to the big time, and then moved to Pride Park Stadium.
Prior to that, Smith appointed a promising young coach from his Oxford United backroom, Steve McClaren – later a ‘triple-winner’ at Old Trafford with Sir Alex and currently revitalising Derby County and awakening their potential to challenge in the 2014 Championship promotion shake-up.
The DVD is diarised game-by-game as the season unfolded and gained impetus, with insightful interviews throughout from Jim Smith and captain van der Laan.
This DVD belongs on your football shelves right next to the VSI classic ‘Match of the Seventies’, which captures Derby’s glory days as League Champions, first under Brian Clough in 1972 and then with Dave Mackay.”
